Do you know how to draw a stomach?

Assalamualaikum

I came to work as usual yesterday. I was quite late as I glanced at my watch it was already 6.35 am. In Surgery posting, our working hours is stretch from 6am to 6pm. And I didnt have a quality sleep the night before, hence I wasnt in a good shape when I came to work.

So as I was reviewing my patient, my colleague Aen came up to me to check me out. Aen is a very nice friend. I love working with her! I always tell her that she's like a princess. Soft spoken and kind hearted, she likes to read and watch romantic movies. On top of that, she always buy waffles during our lunch break. Me on the other hand, makan nasi setinggi gunung, ambik ayam ambik tempe lagi, sebab rasa bersalah tempe is not consider a vegetable, so pergi ambil sayur lagi. Haha :)

Back to my story, when Aen came up to me she was checking on her phone. Guess she was checking on our work schedule. Basicly we dont have any public holiday but we are entitled to get an off day in a week. The off day can be either during weekends or weekdays.

Fatin oncall today right?

Nope. I oncall tomorrow

Tapi Aen rasa Fatin oncall today..

Terus panik. Oh no. aku salah tengok jadual. Please no. God no Im not ready. I clumsily check on my phone to make sure ini semua permainan dunia semata.

Cisss....macam mana aku boleh salah tengok jadual. Sedihnya...

Haaaa tak ready, tak cukup tidur. Oncall means you have to work from 6am today until 6am the next morning. Well I dont mind doing my call but its just that I wasnt in a good shape at that time. My body was like rejecting and rebeling towards anything. I just wanna go back and have my beautiful sleep....

and we know that didnt happen :")

So I started doing my 'own' oncall rounds after I finished my primary team's plan.. Hmm ward full house kot.. Lemah semangat den. I was flipping through my patient's files, trying hard to comprehend the history so that I could get a rough idea about the patient's condition. Couldnt remember how many times aku menguap. Sampai nak tercabut brooch ni ha. Stress betul hahah. Then the oncall team came to do the round..registrars, medical officers (mo) and medical students.

Im still new in Surgery, I dont really recognize my boss. Especially from different teams. I always peep on their nametags and act like I knew them before. Tapi aku sakit hati betul sebab nametag dorang guna font 8 haha naik juling mata aku ni..selalunya aku bantai je spelling nama dorang asalkan ada bunyi.Semalam tuhan memang nak uji aku, dalam aku tengah penat takde mood, lembik longlai, registrar buat round + teaching. Satu patient almost 20 minutes! Ha dari sebasic-basic soalan Reg tanya aku...

I never work with that Reg before..So I didnt know his style. He bombarded me with thousand of questionssss. Me being me, aku main bantai jela jawab asalkan ada jawapan.

Some of the question he asked " What is platelet? Draw me a diagram of Bilroth 1. How does paracetamol works? How many percent of oxygen does a NP supply? Why do we use PPI instead of Ranitidine during UGIB? Metabolism of calcium. "

Weh...all my memory gone already. I left it during my medical student years haha. But I couldnt care less. I just wanna finish the round early hehe.  So everytime he asked me question, I just came out with an answer...until at certain point of time, he actually gave up on me and burst out laughing. I felt like I was a medical student again. When your doctor asked you questions  to trigger your brain to think, then you got palpitation just to make sure you dont blurt out some silly answers. Good times man! Surely it was a good practice for a zombie-brained houseman like me. How I miss my medical student years :')

Oh ya then, the Reg asked me another question

Draw me a diagram on how PPI works in the stomach. Draw it now! *shoving a piece of paper in front of me*

Err...doctor, to be honest. I dont know. I just know how to draw a stomach

You what ?? *burst out laughing* Ok then draw me a stomach.

Then actually I realised that i dont know how to draw a stomach!!! All I had in mind was karipap!!

Dr I even forgot how to draw a stomach cuz Im having palpitation now. I forgot how stomach looks like!

I couldnt believe that I had the courage to say that right in front of his face hahahaha. Sorry Dr, told ya I wasnt in a good shape to do my call :P Do you agree with me when I say, kita rasa kita tau semua benda sampailah kita kena buat benda tu sendiri? Its true right? Like how I used to think that baking is easy until my cake burnt!

Anyway do you know how our stomach looks like?

More or less like a karipap right?

Me with medical students! I call them little minions because they always help me looking for patients' files all over the ward :)

Thank you for reading this entry !

  33. Assalamu Dr. Fatin. Friendship Greetings from Indonesia. I found your article about drawing the stomach. I remember the article Dr. Hiromi Shinya, MD of Japan on enzyme therapy. Hiromi said that the look on someone's stomach reflect health. What do you think?
